Urgent vs Important
"The tyranny of the Urgent"Just this morning, a friend asked me a sensitive question which went thus: Between earning and saving, which is easier to do? It looks like an easy question but think again. Which is easier to you? Me? I find it easier to make money than to save. Unfortunately, many youngsters are in this category. We think that it's better to work and earn money; saving can wait. Who needs to save anyway when you earn regularly from your labour? Seriously? If you have ever asked this rhetoric, you need your psyche checked!
I'm not a financial guru, so I'm not talking about money matters here. I'm talking about priorities. How do you plan your life? How do you live your life daily? How do you place priorities? How are the terms, 'Urgent' and 'Important' prioritised in your daily activities? Hmmm...tough right? It is.
Have you ever gone through a 'long day' where you are totally exhausted from a day full of activities, but you feel unfulfilled? Have you ever found yourself busy with so much work, yet you can't boast of a gratifying achievement at the end of the day? If your answer is yes, you are a victim of the tyrant called 'Urgent'.
People rarely remember to do those things that are important until it is late; rather, they occupy themselves with the things that appear urgent. Your job, those mundane assignments, the promotions, getting the attention of those that matter, putting a colleague down so as to show off your 'technical-know-how', keeping up with 'your class/status', social networks, virtual friends etc. The list goes on and on...
But then we forget the important, because they are not urgent, or don't seem pressing.Things like: family, real friends, your health, real fun, your spiritual life, your attitude, growth - all round etc. These are the things that really define you and yet, you do not pay attention to them.
If only you can take time to take care of the important, you might go a long in eliminating the unpleasant emergencies that plague your life all the time.
Think about this.
