Living vs Existing
Do you know that there's a huge difference between living and just existing? Everyone that is born into this planet will have a space in the earth's history book. This space records that you existed on this planet at a certain time. That's all. But when it comes to living, your works, while you exist, are recorded on marble. This marble is the hearts of men that will live generations after you. Unfortunately, a great percentage of the human race are just existing and not living.
When you ask most young males what (and where) they want to be in the future, most already have default answers. It is what they refer to as the perfect plan - that is, if all things are equal. Unfortunately, all things are never equal.
Their responses usually go thus: I will have my masters at 23 (or 25). I will get a good job in a bank or oil company (the course studied is not even put into consideration). I will own 3 cars and have a sizable amount in my bank account. I'm not greedy, so I don't want the whole world (*laughs). By 28, I'll marry a beautiful, tall, light skinned and God fearing lady. She must be fine oo, because I'm handsome (*laughs again). I'll have 4 kids; 2 boys and 2 girls. My kids will study abroad and we'll always go for vacations in Paris or the Bahamas, at least twice in a year...etc. The dream goes on and on.
If it's a lady, it's worse! After her degree, the next thing that she would want is marriage and then kids. Then she would start planning a states wedding for her daughters and also prepare to become a witch mother-in-law to her sons' wives. The circle keeps moving.
This type of life plan is attractive. Most people never get to this level until they die. So, the people who do are considered to be successful. But is this all there is to life? How can you come down here and leave without affecting any life positively? How can you only want to get without giving? Don't you know that whatever you are blessed with, or graced with, is not just for you? Have you not heard or seen that it is service to humanity that bring great gain?
When you live for yourself, you just exist. And like stated in the first paragraph, your name will be written in an unknown history book that at a certain time, you were present on this earth. Nobody reads this history book. It's just there. But when you live a life of service, your name will be written in the hearts of men and will be passed on from generation to generation.
There's no boring day for any man (or woman) of service. There is always a heart to touch, if you want to. Don't just exist. Live.
