Combating Disease With Data Analytics

Image
South Africa has a high burden of Tuberculosis (TB). In addition, there is a rise of Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis (MDR-TB) that has mutated to survive the drugs typically used to treat regular TB. The cases of MDR-TB rose from 2,000 in 2005 to about 8,000 in 2014. And in South Africa, people with TB hide their disease to avoid social isolation, and therefore do not get proper treatment. One of the key challenges for public health officials is tracking the spread of the disease and controlling transmission. So, IBM is working with South African scientists to develop a system that could help determine how and where TB is spreading in communities. IBM is using wearable headbands and bracelets embedded with RFID tags connected to IBM Watson IOT.

Repetition: The Key To Persuasion (part 2)

The only way to stamp information in the mind (which is where knowledge is imprinted), you need to be exposed to the same information - repeatedly. Information is better assimilated when it is perceived by all five (5) senses. Have you wondered why advertisers keep showing their adverts over and over? They want to imprint their adverts in your mind - through repetition. Your mind is the headquarter of your senses. Signals from your senses are channeled directly to your mind, which in turn decides on how to react.

Repetition: The Key To Persuasion (Part 1)

It is the truth that you know that will make you free. Revelation is the cure for frustration. Knowledge of the truth is the light of your darkness and it is this light that makes you free. Not trying to preach here! Let's evaluate this fact. It has been agreed by some scholars (based on extensive research) that a person (or group of persons) is able to assimilate about 20% of revelation or information from every teaching or exposition (per sitting).

Critical Thinking: Are You asking The Right Questions?

One good thing this ever changing economy has done is to turn more Nigerians into thinking entities (hahaa). Of course, this is a good thing. Are you driving towards becoming an entrepreneur? Do you still depend on your monthly take-home (salary), friends or family? Do you still blame the government for almost everything that is going wrong in your life? Listen, change is inevitable. I'm sure you have heard this a thousand times. Hear it again! You can't fight change. You can't stop change. But you can flow with it.

Stumbling Blocks Are Elevation Planes. See Why

What is your mindset when you see challenges? Do you moan or blame the government? Do you see opportunities or hindrances? Do you know that stumbling block means two things? First, a stumbling block will make you to pause and think. When you think and access your current situation, it gives you a clue and better understanding. Secondly, a stumbling block is an elevation. When you stand on a (stumbling) block (instead of run away from it), you are elevated from the ground level and what happens? Better and wider view.

Time vs Your Life

Image
Yesterday. Today. Tomorrow. These are expressions of time. According to Wikipedia, Time is the indefinite continued progress of existence and events that occur in apparently irreversible succession from the past through the present to the future. Awesome definition. Did you notice the words  indefinite,   continued process and irreversible ? Yes, those are the key words for me. Time is indefinite. It rolls in continued process. And the disheartening fact is that it is irreversible. Apart from this wonderful definition of time, another school of thought has defined it in one word - life. I think this second definition summarises it well. Time is indeed your life. Time is the currency of earth. It is the exchange factor for life. Money is the currency for the payment of goods and services. But time is the currency for the payment of life. You die when you run out of time. It's as simple as that. So this invariably means that whatever you spend your time doing, you are as ...
